Welcome to the official launch of
The Energetic Equestrian Newsletter!
I’m so happy you landed here! As many of you may have noticed, I have kept a low profile over the last few years. When the spotlight was on me for a brief moment, it illuminated two potential life paths I could take.
One path was clear and led in a direction that would ensure I would accumulate many followers and greater financial security. If I chose this path, the route would be clear, smooth, and direct.
The other path before me was overgrown with brush. That was the path I would have to take to find my soul’s purpose. This route was fraught with uncertainty and risk, offering no guarantees of a successful outcome. I chose that one.

Choosing which path to take was hard, and I sometimes wonder what sane person would willingly step out of the spotlight. Perhaps it was because the spotlight was never meant to be on me; it was meant to be on the equines that I love.
The path I chose has been challenging and frustrating at times, but I’m so glad I took it. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to enrich my life, and hopefully the lives of many equines and humans. I can’t measure the benefits I’m now enjoying in dollars or social media likes. Instead, I’ve acquired a wealth of experiences, knowledge, and wisdom that no amount of money could buy.
At this point in my journey, I feel the desire to share my experiences and those of the equines and people I have encountered along the way. I wish to create deep and meaningful content — to put into words my experiences and what I have learned. I want to share the stories of those who stepped into the Sacred Space and came out transformed.
The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you abreast of what’s happening with my work. I’ll share links to new projects, and ways to experience the Sacred Space. There are several new things on the horizon, so stay tuned!
Fall Harvest
At my home in Colorado, we’re quickly moving into fall. Although the days are still warm, the breeze offers a hint that cooler weather is soon approaching. I’ve detected a slight golden hue beginning to creep into the green grass and leaves, suggesting that it won’t be long before a soft blanket of white snow covers the landscape.
Sometimes I’m ready for this transition in seasons because it heralds a time of rest for me. The cold and snow offer the perfect excuse to snuggle into warm, cozy clothes, sit by the fireplace, and review the many events that occurred at my Sacred Spaces gatherings over the previous spring and summer months.

Each year, I find the harvest of Sacred Spaces experiences increasing in abundance, becoming exponentially more enriching and rewarding as time goes on. This is because I’m always learning, gaining broader perspectives, and exploring new ways to share what equines and their human partners are teaching me.
The Energetic Equestrian Newsletter is just one of the many exciting things happening with Sacred Spaces and my work. At the end of this newsletter, you’ll find an announcement and link to another brand-new venture.
The idea for this new venture evolved while I was putting together this newsletter. It appeared suddenly, like a tiny offshoot from a tree that signals it wants to spread its branches and grow. How could I dare prune this branch and stunt its natural growth?
I’m embracing the idea of this new offshoot project. I’ve learned over the years that when I go with the flow and let an idea or project evolve organically, the results can surpass my wildest dreams.
One of my biggest dreams is that more people will see horses and other equines as wise and sentient beings. Beings that we can learn from, and that play an integral role in our evolution as humans.
I believe that equines are somehow prompting me to take on this new project, as they desperately need more human advocates with strong voices. They are counting on you and me — and others doing this type of work — to hasten the paradigm shift toward gentler and more evidence-based horsemanship.
Thank you for joining me in this Sacred Space!

Research Study
I’m honored to announce that I was asked to be a member of a multidisciplinary research team headed by Dr. Laura Miller, Professor of Mathematics, Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona. We will be studying the physiological and biomechanical coupling of horse and rider. The Sacred Breath breathing method I developed will be an integral part of the proposed study.
The purpose of this research effort is to broaden our understanding of how intentional breathing (i.e., a breathing method designed to improve physiological and physical performance) and body awareness influence the horse-human connection.
New Book – Coming in 2026!
In my upcoming book, I’ll expand on many of the concepts presented in Sacred Spaces, as well as introduce some new and ground-breaking theories, techniques, and insights into energy, equine training, and the human-equine connection.

SUCCESS STORIES
Jack & Haley
Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Dr. Fay for the amazing session we did with my horse Jack. She helped me to connect with him at a deeper level as he processed some trauma and today I practiced what I learned. I was able to saddle him with no fear response!
He stayed calm and relaxed because I was able to listen and go at his pace. (He’s been struggling with this for several years since I bought him.) Then we had a fun ride together and I shed some very grateful tears. Truly remarkable.

Coral Skye & Jacqui
Dr. Susie did the most amazing gathering in Arizona and I just had to do a shout out to her!! Today my horse had to go to the emergency room for mild pneumonia. They had to do a breathing test on her where they put an arm length glove over her nostril for a minute so she could have restricted breathing so they could get a full lung breath out of her.
After the glove was released to see if she had fluid in her lungs and she happily did it on both sides with her head low!!!!!! Yes she wasn’t feeling good but she was relaxed enough to do this! This is because Dr. Susie teaches us to heal the horse and treat the underlying behavior instead of teaching us a quick technique that we have to use throughout the horses’s life every time they have that behavior. Teaching the horse to manage themselves and trust is so much more important!!!
I am honored she came into our lives and I am so happy we had a positive experience at the emergency vet . . . TY D. Susan Fay for changing our lives!!!

NEW VENTURE
The Energetic Equestrian Digest
September 2025 marks the official launch of The Energetic Equestrian Digest.
Within the pages of this digital publication, we’ll explore topics from science to energy and spirituality. Each issue will include evidence-based and/or theoretical articles and equine-related stories. In addition, there’ll be a light-hearted editorial column, compliments of Cotton the donkey.
All of the articles in the digest will represent a fusion of science with spirituality, as one without the other gives us an incomplete picture of our human experience. Rest assured, all articles will be AI-free!

Susan D. Fay, Ph.D.
I have been an enthusiastic consumer of information for most of my life, with far-ranging interests including horses, the environment, psychology, energy, the brain, and consciousness. While pursuing these interests, I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Environmental Science, and a Ph.D. in Psychology.
I also have certifications in a number of energy and mental training modalities and techniques. I consider myself quite fluent in the language of energy!
In my former life, I raised Morgan horses and Scottish Highland Cattle on my ranch in western Colorado. I showed many of my horses, achieving local, national, and world championships in various performance-related disciplines.
While working on my Ph.D., I studied the role of early childhood trauma on mental, emotional, and physical health outcomes. My understanding of the effects of trauma is vital to my work with equines. The devastating impact of trauma on our equines is far too common, but also highly preventable if we follow science-based and energetically-aware training methods, such as the ones I teach in my Sacred Spaces work.

Ways I can Help You and Your Equine
Virtual Zoom Session
A private Zoom session is a great opportunity for you and your equine partner to experience the Sacred Space. In a Zoom session, I offer:
psychological, behavioral, and energetic evaluations (equines)
trauma release
connection-building advice
energetic training techniques
energetic communication
The potency of energy is not affected by distance. Many clients comment that the energetic effects are just as strong during a virtual session as during an in-person one.
Sacred Spaces Gathering
Go to the News, Events, and Upcoming Projects page of The Energetic Equestrian to see where I’ll be appearing in-person in the coming months.
Gatherings offer both people and equines an opportunity to experience Sacred Spaces principles and techniques in a safe and supportive environment.
At a gathering, you’ll learn more about energy, energetic horse training, and how to commune with your equine partner.
